All great things must come to an end…and after 18 years of unforgettable performances and amazing memories, Fridays at Sunset (FAS) bids you a warm farewell. Why? Ending on top and on time is very important! We thank you for the many years you supported us and the talented musicians that graced our stage. Stay tuned, more dynamic entertainment is coming your way!
In the meantime, allow us to take you down memory lane. In the early 1990’s, Johnson, Inc. had a vision to provide residents of Central Virginia top quality contemporary jazz music in a friendly atmosphere for after-work networking professionals. In 1994, Fridays at Sunset held its first concert at the Shockoe Pavilion for a chartered group of 400 participants. Just two years later, FAS moved to its home of the next 16 years, Kanawha Plaza.
Fridays at Sunset presented an incredible roster of both emerging and legendary artists including Anthony Hamilton, LL Cool J, Angie Stone, Najee, Seal, John Legend, Boney James, Dave Koz, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, New Edition, Natalie Cole, Chuck Brown, Yolanda Adams, Ledisi, Wayman Tisdale, David Sandborn and so many more!
For Johnson, Inc., and the communities we serve, Fridays at Sunset was more than just a concert series, it was a demonstration of our commitment to the revitalization and growth of the Richmond Metro Region. We are pleased to have contributed to the economic vitality of downtown Richmond by employing over 100 seasonal and part-time workers annually and nearly 300 interns from local colleges and universities. Over 100 scholarships were given to deserving students. We were also able to improve the social and civic landscape of the metro region through partnerships with several local and regional non-profit organizations. And equally important, FAS never experienced a situation that compromised the security of our patrons.
Although the list of incredible moments spans far too great to recount here, we cannot express enough gratitude to our corporate sponsors for years of unparalleled support and partnership. Virginia Tourism Corporation, Altria, WWBT12, the City of Richmond, the Free Press and so many others…THANK YOU! We would also like to thank our many vendors, contractors and volunteers who tirelessly helped make Fridays at Sunset a huge success for nearly two decades.
And last but not least, we thank our extremely loyal, spirited, charismatic, music-loving fans…nothing brought us more pleasure than to see you on your feet, hands swaying in the air, and singing along to your favorite artists. Our goal was to bring you world-class entertainment, and thus…18 years of awesome memories are dedicated to you!
